Obesity statistics

The United States of America has one of the highest rates of obesity in the world. There are approximately 80 million overweight people only in the United States. According to the National Institute of Health’s newest weight guidelines about 45 percent of American adults are officially “overweight” or “obese.” Despite our national preoccupation with slimness, Americans are constantly getting fatter.

As a nation, if taken on the average, we weigh approximately 10 to 15 pounds more than we did 15 to 18 years ago. Because of decreased physical activities and increased fat intake, during the past 100 years we have had a 500 to 800 percent increase in the prevalence of obesity. This is a really bad tendency.

Since excess weight is wide spread, and it contributes to the host many health conditions and sicknesses, weight loss is perhaps the most challenging health goal for the majority of people.
